October
Chill
I just stepped out to my porch a few minutes ago and the
temperature is downright chilly. In fact, it has been cool
enough today that my husband started a fire in the wood
burner this evening. I don't know if there's anything I
don't love about the month of October. I love these crisp
evenings, crunchy sweet apples fresh from the orchard, the
vibrant colors of the changing season, the sight of pumpkins
in the neighboring Amish field, and the smell of mature
crops ready for harvest. I've just begun to hear the roar
of combines in the fields, migrating geese passing overhead,
and the distant hum of a farmer's grain dryer. It won't
be long before this chill gives way to freezing temperatures,
snow, and the more drab colors of winter. I tend to be a
little greedy for all of these sights, sounds, and flavors
because I know it will be a whole year before I experience
them again.
On
that note it only seems appropriate to celebrate the season
by featuring all things pumpkin!

Pumpkin
Facial Masque
This dry masque formula gently exfoliates with natural
pumpkin enzymes, as it moisturizes and detoxifies
with coconut milk, clay, and honey. Custom tailor
your facial by mixing with the activator* of your
choice.
Combine
all ingredients, blending until a uniform mixture
is achieved. Package in jars or tins.
A
ratio of 1 part dry masque to 1 part liquid activator
is a good starting point. For thicker activators,
you may wish to use 1 part dry masque to 1.5 part
activator. About 1 teaspoon of powder and liquid
is enough for one use. Feel free to experiment with
the ratios to suit your individual needs. When using
a new facial masque, perform a small patch test
on the inside of your arm before using on your face.
Apply a thin layer to cleansed face, leaving on
skin for approximately 15 minutes, or until dry.
Gently remove masque with a damp wash cloth. Rinse
face, and pat dry with a clean towel.
*Activators
by skin type: Normal: Any of the listed activators.
It may be wise to use cream and acidic juices sparingly. Dry:
Cream, milk, aloe juice, pureed avocado or banana,
honey, egg whites. Combination: Milk, yogurt, soy milk, honey, green tea,
pureed cucumber. Oily: Sour cream, yogurt, green or black tea,
pureed cucumber, mildly acidic fruit or vegetable (tomato) juices.
Acne: Yogurt, honey, milk, green or black tea, pureed cucumber, pureed
strawberries or apples.
